Th’ Arbor by Clio Barnard
Translated by Ben Howell
Portrayal of the late Bradford playwright Andrea Dunbar and an exploration of the relationships in her life and the fall out from her death. A hybrid of archival footage, theatre performance and actors lip-syncing to audio recordings, The Arbor tells a truly harrowing story. The theatrical and tragic nature of Dunbar’s life inspired the decision for this publication to translate the film phonetically. The tension between truth and reality, fact and performance facilitates the reader to be the performer and evaluate the different points of view portrayed in Clio Barnard’s original film as they attempt to deduce the real truth of the story.
